Lepidoptera Grimmaeus (Grimm Brothers’ Moths)
Upcycled fabric samples & antique discarded German dolls heads

A play with contrasting textures and the element of the unknown, inspired by the German forests and fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm.
Soft, fuzzy fibers are contrasted by the rigidity of porcelain.
Fabric samples, outdated and dismissed after only one season to make space for the new collection, dolls heads, broken, misshapen, incomplete, all discarded and deemed useless are joined to find new meaning.
The discarded fabric samples are layered, sewn together and manipulated to reveal new textures. The process is often unpredictable and surprising when colored or textured threads, barely noticeable in the unaltered fabric, come to the surface and sometimes dominate and alter the color scheme of the new texture.
The doll’s heads are left as they were dug out, covered in dirt, from a discard trench outside a doll factory in the east of Germany. They are not perfect. Their imperfections and the dirt make these mass produced rejects individuals.
Joined together these objects form new mysterious creatures.
